Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) - Road Haulage
Demonstrating ‘professional competence’ is a fundamental requirement of the operator licensing system, for both Standard National and Standard International licences. Given that the qualification is a ‘licence to practice’, our aim is to continually strive to improve the pass rate for the benefit of our members and their staff.
In 2015, we introduced e-testing on public courses, enabling candidates to take the multiple choice examination on the final day of the course. This increased the pass rate by 18 per cent and enabled candidates to concentrate their revision on the case study exam, increasing the pass rate for that exam as a result. Better pass rates benefit employers by reducing employees’ time out of the business to resit examinations.
Our Net Promoter Score for CPC is 75 (excellent by any comparison) and the testimonials featured throughout this prospectus demonstrate the value we provide to our customers and learners. In 2016 we will introduce several more innovations for the benefit of members choosing FTA as their supplier of choice.
Transport Manager CPC training options
This course is eight days over two weeks. This intensive course suits ‘activist’ learning styles and those who like to sit the course in the shortest possible timeframe.
This course is eight days but delivered over six weeks with a week’s gap in between each of the teaching periods. This format has proven a popular and successful addition since 2014. The course suits candidates with a ‘reflective’ learning style, also providing the convenience of shorter durations away from the workplace.
A dozen member organisations chose this cost effective option to prepare their staff for the CPC exams. For those members with suitable facilities, in-company courses deliver consistent pass rates and provide an opportunity for internal networking and a shared purpose amongst employees.
It is also backed by a satisfaction guarantee: if the collective pass rate does not exceed the national average, then FTA Training will provide half price Case Study Revision courses for those candidates requiring to resit that exam.

New for 2016
Free Online Preparation Course
All candidates enrolled on FTA CPC courses will be given access to an e-learning course covering operator licensing, EC drivers’ hours and records, maintenance and driver licensing. Log-ons will be provided, along with electronic materials, four weeks prior to the start date of the course.
This option allows members to gauge whether their candidates are ready for the challenge of Transport Manager CPC, or whether an introductory course would be better first. For example, some employers use the OLAT course as a primer for a full CPC qualification.
E-testing will be extended to our in-company customers in 2016 for the multiple choice examination.
City & Guilds Accreditation
To align with the development of the new Fleet Manager Qualification (FMQ), the awarding body for the FTA CPC will now be City & Guilds.
Successful CPC candidates will also receive an award for the Fleet Manager Qualification. This provides a pathway for further professional development and qualifications. Further details for FMQ can be found on page 28.
Thirty-five hours can be achieved by attending a full Transport Manager CPC course. For ‘acquired rights’ drivers this could mean they satisfy all the hours required for the five-year block: September 2014 to September 2019.
This option must be specified at the time of booking the course.
