Sat-navs for trucks - don't over-complicate

Attempts to solve the problems caused by lorries being directed onto inappropriate roads by satellite navigation equipment could fall down if industry tries to over-complicate the solution. Responding to the Department for Transport’s report on a consultation regarding in-vehicle information systems, the Freight Transport Association has said that huge gains could be made simply by having a commercial vehicle option on standard units which has a greater bias towards motorways and major roads, and a negative bias towards minor roads.

The Freight Transport Association has produced a new four-page A4 publication describing The Importance of Rail Freight and the reasons why the mode is so important for the health of the UK economy. FTA is anxious to promote the future potential for the use of rail for freight over the next 30 years as containerised imports increase and the problems of roads congestion continue to grow.

The event is targeted to manage risk and identify best practice, duty of care, and general compliance on environment and transport for utilities and their contactors.
