Budget 2017 and logistics

The Chancellor, Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, has delivered his first Autumn Budget since the change in timing from the Spring that was announced in March. He reiterated that his statement took a “balanced approach.”

General

In preparation for the Budget announcement, FTA :

  • continued to work with the Treasury to increase its understanding of the competitive position of UK logistics
  • made a submission to the Treasury in advance of the Autumn Budget, covering issues such as fuel duty, air quality, infrastructure investment and skills. Read the submission here
  • held one-to-one meetings with MPs to brief them on the adverse effects of fuel duty increases
  • issued a briefing on HGV taxation, showing how HGV taxes alone pay for 94 per cent of the whole UK road maintenance budget. Read HGVs: Do they pay their way? Impacts on road surfaces
  • took part in various FairFuelUK campaign events
  • issued press releases, including one this week focusing on growing insolvencies in the haulage industry
