Remembering Logistics UK’s ‘Hero of the Year’ at Van Awards 2022
Logistics UK’s annual Van Awards recognises companies and individuals that have made significant contributions to the industry over the previous 12 months.
The 2022 Van Awards voted Nathan White as its ‘Hero of the Year’ for an outstanding act of bravery and selflessness at the scene of an accident.
Having seen a serious collision take place in the face of oncoming motorway traffic, he left his vehicle and rescued a stricken driver from an overturned vehicle seconds before another car struck it.
Nathan, lead driver for Staffordshire-based pharmaceutical company Sciensus, was travelling on the M27 between Southampton and Portsmouth in March when he witnessed the incident and didn’t think twice before putting himself in harm’s way to save another.
"To be crowned as Hero of the Year at the Van Awards 2022 is very humbling,” he said. “I feel extremely lucky to work with the people I do and to be able to save a life at the same time is an honour."
This year’s Van Awards will be taking place on 15 September 2023 at the Hyatt Regency in Birmingham with shortlisted applicants in each of the categories invited to the celebratory awards lunch.

Less than two months until ULEZ expansion goes live, 30% of Londoners still drive non-compliant vehicles
A recent survey of London motorists, commissioned by Europcar Mobility Group UK, revealed that 61% of motorists still drive compliant vehicles, 14% intend to replace their non-compliant vehicle this year and 7% will do so in the future.
While 9% believe their vehicle is non-compliant, they stated that they cannot afford to buy a more environmentally friendly replacement currently. 3% intend to give up their vehicle entirely.
“With the on-going cost-of-living crisis, inflation rising month-on-month and the lack of quality new and used vehicles available in the market, now is a challenging time to make the investment in a compliant vehicle”, said Mark Newberry, Sustainability spokesperson at Europcar Mobility Group UK.
“It’s good news, therefore, that the Mayor of London has announced an extension to the ULEZ scrappage scheme to help drivers and smaller businesses registered in London. Drivers need as much help as possible if they are to upgrade to compliant vehicles and help reduce air pollution in London.”
