Logistics UK urges members to respond to MOT consultation
Logistics UK is encouraging its members to respond individually to a public consultation on updating and changing MOTs in Great Britain, which was launched by the Department for Transport (DfT) last week (18 January 2023).
One of the proposals contained within the consultation is changing the date of the first MOT for new vehicles. The consultation asks about the frequency of tests after the first MOT, boosting the monitoring of emissions to tackle pollution and whether hybrid vehicles should be brought in to scope of emissions testing.
Raising the threshold for zero emission vans to 4.25 tonnes is also being considered, as it would remove the need for these vehicles to be subject to the more onerous HGV testing regime.
Phil Lloyd, Head of Engineering Policy, Logistics UK, said: “While Logistics UK will be submitting its own detailed response to this important consultation, we are also urging our members to consider sending in their own responses. This will ensure that DfT obtains the widest possible range of views and perspectives on vehicle testing from all sectors of the logistics industry.”
