Traffic Commissioner underlines the importance of vehicle maintenance

Logistics UK’s popular one-day Fleet Engineer conference returned yesterday, but it was an event with a difference.

This year it was a virtual event using a cutting-edge, immersive conference and networking platform, providing delegates with exclusive opportunities to hear about the very latest developments in commercial vehicle technology, maintenance legislation changes and best practice advice from leading names across the sector.

Traffic Commissioner for the West of England, Kevin Rooney, gave his views on maintaining compliance in today’s technological world at yesterday's Fleet Engineer conference. In addition to stressing that technological safety features must be maintained correctly, Rooney clarified the obligations placed on operators when undertaking safety inspections on their vehicles and trailers.

Using a cutting edge, immersive conference and networking platform, the one-day event also offered delegates opportunities to hear about the very latest developments in commercial vehicle technology, maintenance legislation changes and best practice advice from leading names from across the sector.

Phil Lloyd, Head of Engineering Policy at Logistics UK, comments: “As technology continues to evolve at such a rapid rate, maintaining and inspecting vehicles and trailers is becoming increasingly challenging for commercial vehicle engineers. I was delighted that Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney shared his expectations of engineers with conference delegates, in terms of safety inspections, as well as his insight on how to ensure vehicles and trailers are inspected properly and that technological safety features are being maintained effectively.”

Sponsored by Brigade Electronics, Clarios, Continental Tyres, DAF Trucks, Logistics UK Recovery, Mobil Delvac and Schmitz Cargobull, the event was particularly well received by those with responsibility for specifying commercial vehicles, ensuring roadworthiness, compliance and maintaining vehicles.

Mat Wilkinson, Commercial Director at Continental Tyres, said: “Continental Tyres is delighted to sponsor the inaugural Logistics UK Fleet Engineer virtual event. These are challenging times for the road transport industry, and this event offered Continental the opportunity to meet and engage with industry colleagues, to provide the tools and solutions fleets need to help, now and in the future.”
