Government launches consultation on brownfield land and intervenes on London Plan
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) launched a consultation on “strengthening planning policy for brownfield development” on 13 February – which closes on 26 March – setting out plans to encourage councils to prioritise housing developments on brownfield land.
At the same time, the government has explicitly committed to pushing through policy changes in London, with Secretary of State Michael Gove writing to the Mayor of London to intervene on the London Plan by calling for “an overarching presumption in favour of housebuilding on brownfield land.”
“While housebuilding is vital, communities also need logistics, meaning our sector needs space on brownfield land too,” says Jonathan Walker, Head of Cities and Infrastructure Policy at Logistics UK.
“Some light industrial and types of employment can work well side-by-side with residential, but there are many land uses, including logistics and warehousing, where co-location is more challenging.”
Logistics UK will be submitting a response to both the DLUHC consultation on brownfield development and the Greater London Authority consultation on 'Industrial Land Use' in London, which closes on 28 February.

XPO Logistics expands longer semi-trailer fleet in UK
XPO has introduced 30 additional longer semi-trailer (LST) fleet vehicles in the UK and Ireland while reducing CO2e emissions by almost 1,000 tonnes or 7 million kilograms annually.
The specialised LSTs boost capacity by 180% compared to a single deck trailer, improving operational efficiency and environmental performance.
