A Month in the Media - March 2024
What a month! Like the song says, we've been everywhere, man!
The logistics industry maintained a significant presence in the news during March, thanks to the efforts of Logistics UK’s press office.
Key topics generating media interest included the upcoming introduction of the new EU entry/exit system, the next stage of the Border Target Operating Model, the industry’s response to the Budget and the Zero Emission Van Plan.
By establishing and strengthening strong relationships with the media and providing timely responses to issues and announcements, the Logistics UK press office team has ensured the opinions of its members are kept in the headlines.
Between 28 February and 27 March 2024, 182 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for around 1.44 billion people to see Logistics UK’s opinions.

EU entry/exit system (EES)
An interview was placed on LBC regarding the EU entry/exit system (EES) and Logistics UK was quoted in an article on MSN.com. The business group’s comments at the European Scrutiny Committee were broadcast on BBC1 South East, BBC Radio Kent and Heart Kent, and its comments featured on the Daily Express, BBC, AOL and Yahoo! websites and in the regional and trade media. Later in the month Logistics UK was quoted in the print edition of i newspaper and on the inews, Express and MSN UK and New Zealand websites.
Border Target Operating Model
A story on the Bloomberg website regarding the transport of racehorses included Logistics UK’s comments on the implementation of the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM).
Budget
Following the Chancellor’s Spring Budget announcement continuing the 5p per litre cut in fuel duty, Logistics UK’s comments were published by Metro, MSN and a variety of trade publications.
Zero Emission Van Plan
Logistics UK's involvement in the launch of the Zero Emission Van Plan was mentioned on the GB News website and achieved wide coverage in the trade media.
M25 closure
The press team placed an interview for Logistics UK’s policy director Kevin Green on BBC Radio Kent regarding the impact on the industry of the closure of a section of the M25 for a whole weekend, and his comments were repeated on news bulletins throughout the day.
Northern Ireland
Logistics UK took part in a live panel discussion on infrastructure issues on BBC1 Northern Ireland's ‘The View’, taking the opportunity to highlight the policy priorities for its members in Northern Ireland.
The month ahead
As the country moves towards a General Election, the media team will continue to publicise the asks of the industry for the next government in media interviews and opinion pieces. There will be continued focus on raising awareness of the challenges posed for the industry on the next stage of the BTOM, as well as signposting the issues which still exist with the introduction of the EES system later in the year.
The industry’s ongoing skills shortage will remain a focus, as well as continuing promotion of the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity. The team will also be promoting Logistics UK’s exciting 2024 events programme and raising awareness of member opinions on issues affecting the sector.
