Passengerfta headed up to Birmingham this week to attend the Euro Bus Expo 2012 at the NEC. On the opening day, Steph McGovern from BBC Breakfast broadcast the business news from the show, Norman Baker announced £20million extra funding towards the Green Bus Fund and Alexander Dennis was ready to announce an order for £110M for Hong Kong - so it was a busy day! Steph also showed off her driving skills by racing model buses on the Altro stand and crashing a new hybrid bus into cones in the demonstration area.

Euro VI was one of the main features of the show - Cummins had three diesel engines on show and a gas powered engine. Mercedes and Volvo both had a model of their new Euro VI engines on their stands and there were a number of other Euro VI buses and coaches on show.

One of the main draws of the show was the ‘Boris Bus’ otherwise known as ‘New Bus for London Routemaster', which was on show at The Wright Group stand. Lots of visitors were taking photos of the gleaming showpiece and it was particularly noteworthy after Boris Johnson's recent announcement of funding for a further 600 Routemasters over the next four years.

On the second day, the IRTE launched its IRTE Skills Challenge 2013 - an engineering competition to find the best technicians in the industry in a series of mechanical, electrical and bodywork challenges. The competition will take place between 29 May and 7 June 2013.

We had a great time exhibiting at the event and look forward to the next one!
