PCV Roadworthiness and Maintenance Inspections

FTA's PCV Roadworthiness and Maintenance Inspections have received accrediation from UKAS in recognition of our independent, impartial examinations on the visual, operational and mechanical condition of your vehicles.

You will benefit from

  • peace of mind that you are operating legally, safely and efficiently
  • assurance that you are complying with your legal obligations through regular vehicle checks
  • minimised maintenance costs through correct wear and tear evaluation
  • help and advice in reducing vehicle failure at roadside and annual checks
  • increased reliability of vehicles through early detection of defects

What does a typical roadworthiness inspection include?

  • Inspection of all items covered on the statutory annual test
  • Inspection of items that could give rise to prohibition (PG9)
  • Inspection of items that affect the legality of the vehicle
  • Inspection of items that could affect the reliability of the vehicle
  • A comprehensive computer printed report of all items contravening annual test regulations, providing advice on the severity of these defects along with the level of prohibition the defect would attract at a VOSA roadside check

What does a typical maintenance inspection include?

  • All items as per the roadworthiness inspection
  • The additional benefit of a maintenance inspection is the more in-depth reporting:
    • in addition to flagging any contraventions to roadworthiness standards, it also provides a valuable insight into maintenance standards and the general care of the vehicle
    • a comprehensive breakdown of all the components checked and a ‘coding’ for each separate area allows you to realise the extent of the condition of the component and its potential to become a defect given time. This then allows you to make provisions for remedial works, as and when the condition of the component is in danger of becoming a contravention item

"FTA's PCV Inspections are an invaluable service to us. We do not have our own in-house maintenance systems, so we rely heavily on FTA to be our eyes and ears to carry out audit visits on operators on our school transport tender list. The service FTA provides gives us peace of mind that our vehicles are in a safe and legal condition."
