HGV Roadworthiness and Maintenance Inspections

FTA’s HGV Roadworthiness and Maintenance Inspections are designed to fully examine the visual, operational and mechanical condition of your vehicles. These UKAS accredited regular vehicle checks, ensure compliance with your legal obligations.

You will benefit from

  • compliance with your legal obligations through regular vehicle checks
  • reduced vehicle failure at roadside and annual checks
  • reduced maintenance costs through correct wear and tear evaluation
  • early detection of defects helping to increase reliability
  • peace of mind that you are operating legally, safely and efficiently
  • a detailed inspection report

What does a typical roadworthiness inspection include?

  • Inspection of all items covered on driver daily walk around checks - lights, tyres, wheel fixings, bodywork, trailer coupling, load and ancillary equipment
  • Inspection of all items covered on the statutory annual test
  • A comprehensive computer printed report of all items contravening annual test regulations, providing advice on the severity of these defects along with the level of prohibition the defect would attract at a VOSA roadside check

What does a typical maintenance inspection include?

  • All items as per the roadworthiness inspection
  • The additional benefit of a maintenance inspection is the more in-depth reporting:
    • in addition to flagging any contraventions to roadworthiness standards, it also provides a valuable insight into maintenance standards and the general care of the vehicle
    • a comprehensive breakdown of all the components checked and a ‘coding’ for each separate area allows you to realise the extent of the condition of the component and its potential to become a defect given time. This then allows you to make provisions for remedial works, as and when the condition of the component becomes in danger of becoming a contravention item
