FTA's Freight Councils are democratic structures and are all open to members to get actively involved in future policy and decision making processes. There are nine councils throughout England, one in Wales, one in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland, discussing topics ranging from key operational issues to national freight policy matters. The councils meet quarterly and members keen to carry issues beyond these regional meetings can be nominated to attend National Council meetings.
National Council is divided into four key groups.

FTA's policy initiatives aren't only UK based, its envolvement stems through to an European level, with wider involvement with the International Road Union (IRU) to shape road freight policy. FTA member representatives are encouraged to participate in Brussels, where we maintain a permanent presence within our Brussels office. FTA is also a leading member of the European Shippers' Council , with involvement open to members to discuss global and European supply chain policy issues concerning shipping, ports, security and aviation services.
This forum was launched by FTA in June 2008 and addresses issues and challenges arising from the international supply chain. It involves all stakeholders from shippers and operators to infrastructure providers. The forum aims to guide FTA’s policy and campaigning across the supply chain and gives members the opportunity to exchange knowledge and best practice. The forum will report to Freight Transport Council via the British Shippers’ Council. Membership of the ISCF is open to all FTA members with an interest in international supply chains.
