CDU upgrade
Summary of changes CDU v.6 & v.7
New Features
- Permissions for use of the CDU can be set remotely via a web site
(See document CDU Web Mode Set-up)
This is ideal for multi depot companies or those companies that are using administrators to operate CDU. By setting the permissions remotely the member has increased control over system access, system use and better security.
Permissions can still be set at an individual PC level if requested, however the advanced manual entry option and agency driver handling functions will not be available.
NB: Future development of CDU will be based upon the use of web mode.
- Auto Read
The driver card will automatically read when inserted in the card reader. There is no requirement for the “Read Card” button.
There is also the option available now to have two or more card readers attached to the PC to read more than one card at once.
NB. The card reader must be connected to the PC prior to opening CDU.
- Vehicle File Report
This new report has been added to the ‘Reports’ menu in CDU. It can be run for a single location or all locations and shows ‘Latest VU Upload for each Vehicle in Last 3 months’.
Results show registration number, location, filename and last activity date.
- Advanced Manual Entries
(See Instructions for the use of FTA’s Customer Data Upload Software p.21-26)Where the relevant permission is set the user can now add manual entries relating to drive, other work, rest and POA as well as sickness, statutory and extra holidays.
This is useful where drivers are under RTD regulations but do not drive under EU regulations every day. The user can now enter work, drive, POA and rest on those days where EU driving does not take place thus ensuring an accurate calculation of working time takes place.
- Agency Drivers – web mode only

New card uploaded to FTA for the first time:
Agency driver = Yes
- Data will be uploaded to the FTA for storage.
(A charge may apply according to your contract agreement)
- Data will be ‘greyed’ out and hidden from view in the calendar.
(No charge for digital data for these days will be made)
- Data will NOT appear on Company analysis reports sent out at due dates or viewed via the ‘Infringements’ button.
If data is required to be viewed and infringements checked, data can be purchased:
- Any ‘greyed’ out days can be ‘unhidden’ and Imported to your calendar.
(A charge in line with your contract for digital data for these days will be made)
- Data will NOT appear on Company analysis reports send out at due dates, but WILL be available for viewing on CDU as normal digital data.
Existing driver card, previously uploaded to FTA:
- ‘Edit’ driver details and ‘tick’ the ‘Agency Driver’ option.
- Drivers details will appear from the next card upload, as above.
- Once set to Agency Driver, cannot be removed. A request must be sent to our Tachograph administration department to amend.
NB. This option is not available where members remain set up on standard mode.
NB: You may want to consider amending the new option available ‘Allow to Purchase Agency data’ to ‘False’ to any users who you do not wish to have the ability to purchase data.
