In this first section of the Manager’s Guide to Distribution Costs we look specifically at wages and hours of work for groups of employees engaged in distribution activities, as reported to us by our panel of contributing members.
Wage returns from contributors on drivers, workshop staff and warehouse employees are analysed in terms of function in subsections two - four. Additional information is provided on overnight subsistence payments and midday meal allowances, together with general levels of holiday entitlement. In each of the three subsections wage information for day workers is supplemented by data relating to employees working on a shift basis and where possible broad comparisons are made.
A summary is then made of overall wage trends for each employee group in terms of increases in basic and gross pay.
In subsection five, detials are given on the latest Road Haulage Joint Industrial Council’s settlement (where applicable).
