Where does the law stand on abnormal loads?
The law requires that if your vehicle and load movements exceed standard dimensions, then you need to pre-notify the police, highway and bridge authorities.
The length of notice you need to give and whether an attendant is required depends on the vehicle dimensions and weight.
Plan your route with help from ESDAL
The Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL) is a website developed by the Highways Agency to help plan your route.
Once you’ve sketched your route, the service gives you advice on abnormal load movements as well as identifying which authorities need to be notified. Take a look at the ESDAL website.

From time to time we are asked to highlight particular restrictions on the Strategic Road Network.
