Drug driving

From 2 March 2015 the law was changed to allow the police to prosecute those who drive after taking certain illegal drugs and, in some cases, legal medicinal drugs. The changes will only apply in England and Wales. Drivers can still be prosecuted in Scotland and Northern Ireland under existing rules governing fitness to drive.

The aim of the new legislation is to reduce the number of drug-related road deaths and with 19 million prescriptions issued covering the listed drugs, employers need to be aware of the changes.
