FTA expands specialist expertise with training business acquisition

Tuesday 02 January 2018

Reinforcing its position as the only organisation representing the entire logistics industry, the Freight Transport Association is delighted to announce the acquisition of T Team Ltd trading as TrainingTeam.  TrainingTeam provides market-leading, industry approved specialist training courses at venues across the country and online, which focus on air cargo security and the movement of dangerous goods by air, road and sea.

FTA is already an established provider of compliance training for the transport industry. “No one knows logistics quite like us,” says David Wells, the organisation’s Chief Executive.  “This acquisition strengthens our ability to ensure that our members, many of whom are already customers of TrainingTeam, are confident in the security and movement of dangerous goods across all transport modes, and cements FTA as the go-to provider for high quality training across the logistics sector.”

TrainingTeam was founded by Charles Manetta in 1988 after a successful career in airline ground operations and staff training.  He was instrumental in the development of specialist training for the handling of dangerous goods and security training in the UK airline industry.

“I am delighted to be handing on the organisation to FTA,” says Manetta, “which is equally passionate about the industry, security and safety.  FTA has a reputation for providing expert, credible advice, which is trusted by the industry, values which we have long championed at TrainingTeam.  Our courses will complement FTA’s offering to ensure the sector continues to benefit from the best possible compliance training.”

FTA is the only organisation in the UK that represents all of logistics, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.

Wells continues, “An efficient supply chain is vital to Keep Britain Trading, and directly impacts over 2.5 million people employed in these vital sectors of our economy.  Most importantly, FTA speaks to government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, greatly increasing the impact of its messages and achieving significant results for members.  With Brexit driving changes in the way goods arrive and depart, logistics has never been more important to UK PLC.

“We are delighted to add TrainingTeam’s excellent range of courses to our existing portfolio, and to strengthen FTA’s offering in the air cargo security and dangerous goods training market.  TrainingTeam will continue to offer its courses to all its existing customers, and FTA will be growing the online training offer which has seen the company reach a global marketplace.”

The owners of TrainingTeam were advised by the EMC Corporate Finance Team in Hove and FTA by Asb Law LLP.

TrainingTeam’s employees will remain at the organisation’s Crawley HQ: for further information please contact Keith Gray, FTA General Manager Training, at kgray@fta.co.uk
