Scotland’s Transport Minister to address FTA conference Oct 15, 2015
Scotland’s Minister for Transport and Islands, Derek Mackay MSP, will be addressing a Freight Transport Association conference for transport managers which takes place on Wednesday 28 October in Dunblane.
The Transport Manager conference series, sponsored by Microlise and Volvo Trucks, is touring the UK until December, preparing transport managers and those in charge of road transport fleets for the year ahead. The Dunblane event will give Scottish transport operators the chance to hear from and speak with some of the key stakeholders within the Scottish freight transport and logistics industry.
The HGV speed trial on the A9 and the dualling programme which is due to be stepped up in the coming weeks will be the subject of a presentation by Transport Scotland. Delegates will be updated on all the activity taking place across this ambitious programme, which will see 80 miles of the route between Perth and Inverness dualled by 2025.
Other subjects to be covered include:
- Road investment programme for Scotland
- Priorities for enforcement
- Responding to the air quality challenge
- Managing the road network and avoiding congestion
- Driver management – including understanding the lessons from Glasgow
- Driver crisis – recruiting and retaining drivers in a tough market
A delegate attending a previous conference in the series described it as a “Terrific event as always!” and another called it “A must for transport managers, being able to liaise with speakers and like-minded people within the transport industry.”
