Scottish Supply Chain Forum explores decarbonisation and modal shift

Monday 06 June 2011

The Freight Transport Association’s Scottish Supply Chain Forum meeting on 14 June will include key sessions looking at decarbonisation of the maritime supply chain and also mode shift choice promotion.

Professor Alan McKinnon of Herriot Watt University will address the forum on industry initiatives to decarbonise the maritime supply chain and what shippers can do to play their part. This will link with FTA work on the repositioning costs, both economic and environmental, of shipping containers for the Scottish export trades.

FTA will outline its work in leading mode shift work on behalf of the Department for Transport. This includes exciting new developments on rail and shipping modal choice promotion to help shippers make informed choices and assess the viability of modal choice options. The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership will give a presentation regarding its study on whisky logistics mode shift from Highlands distilleries to the Scottish central belt.

The meeting will also hear from the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Strategic Development Planning Authority on its Glasgow and Clyde Valley Plan and its links to strategic freight locations. Brodies LLP will present on developments in supply chain competition law compliance in Scotland and also on the new Rotterdam Rules on carriage of goods.
