FTA's online updates keep lorry operators ahead of the weather

Thursday 16 December 2010

With the wintry weather conditions forecast to return to many parts of the UK this week, it is vital that lorry operators have the correct information on road and weather conditions in order for them to make informed decisions regarding their transport operations.

The Freight Transport Association provides a comprehensive suite of information for operators and drivers.

The FTA website now includes:

  • advice for operators and drivers on how to deal with the severe conditions
  • the latest weather information from the Met Office
  • traffic RSS feeds for up-to-the-minute information on the roads in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

FTA also provides daily traffic update emails, which give busy transport operators the latest information during the working day on traffic conditions and severe weather affecting the transport network. Available as a bespoke service for FTA members, over 50 additional members have signed up for these emails in the last 24 hours.

Malcolm Bingham, FTA’s Head of Road Network Management Policy, said:

“The transport industry has to rely on robust and accurate information on road conditions so that it can operate its vehicle fleets efficiently and safely. FTA has worked over a number of years to provide comprehensive, up-to-date information to those operators from a variety of different sources.“
