London Manifesto: Delivering London
London and the UK economy depend on freight. As the leading
financial centre in the world, it relies on fast and efficient logistics
to deliver documents and supplies, keeping the city thriving 24
hours a day, seven days a week. Theatres, restaurants, sporting
venues and tourist attractions need a constant supply of goods
and services to meet the demands of their customers. But just as
important are the needs of over 7.5 million people who live and
work in the capital and the projected 800,000 more who are set
to swell London’s population in the next 10 years. This will bring
an increased demand for freight goods, but also put greater strain
on our transport infrastructure - affecting business and domestic
transport. FTA and Transport for London (TfL) are working
together through the London Freight Plan to meet the challenges
that will emerge.
Action needs to be taken to secure the long-term sustainability
of London and, by extension, of the UK as a whole. If London
is to remain competitive and attractive to the rest of the world,
action needs to be taken - now. |
