Green matters

In September 2007, the Commission for Integrated Transport published a major Government report on carbon dioxide emissions from transport in the UK. The report highlighted that significant reductions in carbon dioxide are achievable in the freight sector through improved fuel efficiency, better utilisation of vehicles and driver training. Significantly the report did not advocate the use of the fuel duty escalator to achieve carbon dioxide savings.

FTA welcomed the Commission's stance on fuel duty and supports members in their efforts to reduce their carbon impact. FTA has introduced and developed Carbonfta, a subscription service which focuses on operational actions to minimise emissions and a toolkit to enable operators to regularly monitor and report carbon dioxide emissions.
