Prices at Friday, 16 May, 2008 @ 09:44am (excluding VAT) from John Hall Associates daily fuel price briefing. The prices quoted here are the latest average WEEKLY CONTRACT BULK diesel price which is based on a Rotterdam price plus a UK delivery margin. Please note that this contract price lags behind the spot diesel price by approximately two weeks; therefore when world oil prices are rising contract prices will be lower than spot, but when world oil prices are falling contract prices will be higher than spot prices (due to the time-lag).

FTA's daily fuel prices are supplied by John Hall Associates, a leading energy market analyst, and are a totally unbiased source of fuel price information - invaluable when negotiating road haulage contracts and prices.

Below you will find a series of tools to assist you with monitoring fuel prices over the last 12 months, how these affect overall transport costs as well as FTA’s latest forecast of bulk diesel prices to the end of 2008.

    FTA's 'fuel fractions' table shows fuel costs as a proportion of total annual vehicle and driver cost for a range of hgv.
    
    Using information from this table and fuel price movement over the last 12 months (see operator tools), it is possible to calculate the annual change in vehicle oprating costs occurring purely as a result of the movement in fuel prices.
    
    Example
    
    A 44 tonne artic runns 70,000 miles a year, 35 per cent of its total costs are fuel. If diesel prices have risen by 18.6 per cent over the last year, the total vehicle operating costs will have risen by 6.5 per cent.
    
    35 per cent x 18.6 per cent = 6.5 per cent

    FTA regularly updates its forecast of bulk diesel and gas oil/red diesel for the year ahead which aims to provide members with an indication of how prices are likely to move over the next year.
