Don’t you love it when a plan comes together!

Pulling together any conference event can be both time consuming and challenging.

Identifying interesting and engaging speakers can be demanding; persuading them to send you their presentations in time, even more so.

Getting the right venue, on the right date and within budget can be compared to nailing jelly to a ceiling.

But, and it’s a big but, there are few jobs in FTA which are quite as satisfying as seeing the plans drop into place and watching what started as a vague idea turn into a ‘proper job’!

And that’s where we are with this year’s Van Excellence Operational Briefings – not allowed to call them Conferences this year!

If I do say so myself, I think we’ve a really strong set of speakers covering a range of topics; all of which are of real operational value to van operators of all sizes and sectors.

The tone for the day will be set by our keynote presentation from DVSA. They recognise the good work being done by Van Excellence and our accredited operators and will be describing their plans for increased roadside compliance checks on vans planned for 2015.

Then we’ve Jon York from British Gas sharing how they reduced crashes within their fleet by 30% followed by our own Ian Laughlin looking at practical ways of reducing operational costs.

Mike Rayner from Turris UK is something of an expert in ‘change management’. He’ll be giving delegates a presentation on overcoming resistance to the changes required to meet Van Excellence standards. We then hear from the ‘horse’s mouth’ with Nick Webb, Millers Vanguard, explaining how they achieved Van Excellence accreditation and the benefits they’ve enjoyed.

After lunch we’ll hear from Supt. Paul Keasey, Head of CMPG, on his views of van operators from a police point of view before Tim Ridyard from Woodfines Solicitors talks about the scary issues around corporate responsibility and HSE prosecutions.

We wanted to finish the day on a high and I’m really pleased Gyilwm Mason-Evans will be joining us. Gyilwm has by his own admission had 3 dream careers from his time in the RAF to running the logistics for Honda F1 to setting up the transport function for Team Sky Procycling. Gyilwm will be sharing his stories and anecdotes with us.

So in the words of Hannibal from the A-Team, I love it when a plan comes together!
