Victory For FFUK At Top Industry Awards

The hard work and dedication of all involved with FairFuelUK, the successful FTA-backed fuel duty campaign, was recognised on Monday night as campaign founder Peter Carroll beat off stiff competition to win the prestigious "Public Affairs Campaign of the Year" award at the CIPR Excellence awards in London.

At the glitzy ceremony in the Grand Ballroom of London's glamorous Park Lane Hilton hotel, hosted by former 110m hurdles world champion Colin Jackson, no fewer than 28 awards were presented, celebrating the best PR campaigns in every aspect of the industry; with winners representing campaigns in sport, policing, tourism and more.

In the Public Affairs category the FairFuelUK campaign was nominated alongside five other campaigns representing a diverse range of different issues. These included the Royal British Legions's successful campaign to have the Military Covenant enshrined in law and the push to gain planning permission for Scotland's first commercial gold mine.

However, with particular focus paid to the effective way FairFuelUK has harnessed a wide range of different public, media and parliamentary tools to achieve two reversals of fuel duty cuts, and keeping fuel duty at the top of the political and media agenda for 18 months; the eminent judging panel decided that the energy and skill of Peter and his team gave FFUK the edge.

Although this is a welcome achievement for all involved with the campaign, not least FTA whose staff have worked hard to make it a success, the work does not stop here. There is a 3p duty increase planned for 1 August, and we need your help to see it reversed. Please see our fuel duty microsite for details of how you can get involved, and help to stop this damaging duty rise.
