Armstrong, Wilson, Attwood, WebbYesterday, FTA was at Stormont to discuss progress on the new Operator Licensing regime for Northern Ireland; which will bring fairness, safety and security to roads across the province.

Environment minister Alex Attwood was receptive to FTA's pleas for the progress which has seen consultations published on transitional arrangements and fees to be maintained; and Departmental civil servants were keen to reassure both FTA and their minister that everything will be in place for applications to be received from April 1.

In addition, Mr Attwood showed considerable interest in harmonising regulatory and legal practices with the rest of the island of Ireland, for the benefit of cross-border trade and the companies who move goods; pledging improvements in a number of areas by 2014.

FTA will be monitoring progress on implementation of Operator Licensing over the coming weeks and months; and will keep members updated on how and when to apply for a licence.
