Day 1: Tunbridge Wells to Guildford, 53 miles

Posted on: Thursday, 9 June 2011 by Toby Carroll in category Cycle ride

Start of the Transaid cycle rideIt was a small but select group who set off from Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday morning at 9.30.With 48 miles to go it became clear that we were going to have to teach Becky how to change gear on her off-road mountain bike.

Glyn and Wayne from Tradeteam deployed great local knowledge to detour around Reigate and introduced some beautiful scenery.

Lunch was provided by Ian and team at Horley Road Services before we headed off for the afternoon with a couple of healthy lung stretching climbs out towards Guildford. We were well rewarded at Newlands Corner on the A25 with spectacular views... and an ice cream sourced by Chris Thornton.

Setting off on day 1A few shots of energy gel were required to get Becky and her knobbly tyred mountain bike to the end but she got there with a smile on her face.

We all arrived in good shape with Stewart, Chris and Nikki heading off to Swindon for a well deserved rest ahead of a 58 mile challenge with the South West team.
